The Brain Bank

Abstract

 

The Brain Bank provides a resource of brain and spinal cord tissue to the neuroscience research community. The Bank deals with all aspects of tissue donation, collection and distribution to researchers as well as carrying out neuropathological research into neurodegenerative disease. This talk aimed to raise awareness of this important resource based at the Denmark Hill campus.

Dr Claire Troakes graduated from Southampton University in 1999 with a BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology. She went on to complete the MSc Neuroscience degree at the Institute of Psychiatry, undertaking a research project on HIV-related dementia. She then took up a position as a Research Assistant in the School of Neurology, Neurobiology and Psychiatry at Newcastle University. During this time she obtained her PhD in the ‘Neurobiology of Anxiety’, investigating the effects of pharmacological manipulation and early life adversity on anxiety.Claire is now the coordinator of the MRC London Neurodegenerative Diseases Brain Bank based at the Institute of Psychiatry.
