Pre, Intra and Postsurgical Uses of Neuroimaging

Speaker: Dr Jonathan Ashmore, Institute of Psychiatry.

Advanced neuroimaging techniques such as functional, perfusion and diffusion tensor imaging are now common place within the research arena, yet they are still not fully embraced within a clinical environment. One area where neuroimaging has significantly contributed is for neurosurgical planning. In this seminar Dr Ashmore will describe the use of advanced neuroimaging techniques for planning brain tumour and epilepsy surgery at Kings College Hospital and will discuss how advanced neuroimaging systems can be used intraopertaively for targeting of deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrodes. At Kings DBS is applied to diseases ranging from paediatric movement disorders to adult depression.

Dr Jonathan Ashmore is an MRI physicist based at Kings College Hospital.
